Piezo is pretty reliable as is. I suppose you could try to find one of those electric BBQ sparkers. They run about $10 more than the piezo ones. A stungun would also be a good choice if you can get one.

Stunguns from BCARMS are about the same price (after shipping) as pulsing electric barbeque lighters, and more entertaining.

If you want reliable AND cheap:
  • 1.) Get a 3$ lantern ignitor
2.) Replace the flint in it with a Ronson flint (no more than two bucks for a pack)
    3.) Install
That's about as cheap as they come, and reliable as well.

I second that lantern flint ignitor. they are awesome and reliable, even though they are not as cool as the other methods that involve hitting a button.

The negative regarding the lantern lighters is that they require a dedicated hand to operate it and therefore your cannon has to be handled and aimed with one hand...the other one.

However lots of people like lantern lighters. BBQ ignitors and stunguns are however considered a step up in the big picture.
