mini potato guns are just fine with hot glue but a full size is a different question

Super glue does not work well with pvc it can hold presure but its better to play it safe with pvc glue and don't double post just edit your previous question about superglue with the edit button. And also even if its smaller and your putting pressure it stick with pvc glue it might save your life but if its a mini combustion then you might just get away with because there usually not made out of pvc anyways. Don't use super glue, period. Why risk it? If it wouldn't pass building code for a pressurized water system (max pressure <100 PSI) why would you think it is acceptable to use when you'll likely be holding the stupid thing in your hands?

Folks have built things with superglue that have lasted a long time. So what? Kind of like the lucky Russian Roulete player that spins the cylinder 20 times without killing himself. The fact that he lived twenty times does not mean it is a smart thing to be doing. There is still a 1 in 6 chance (for a six-shooter) that he will blow his brains out on the 21st spin.

Besides, super glue is much more expensive than is a can of PVC cleaner/primer and a can of PVC glue. To get enough super glue into even a moderate sized joint, say a 2", you going to have to use a lot of super glue. The entire length of the joint needs to be bonded not just the last half inch or so. If you apply glue to the open joint it may well sieze before the parts are fully seated. If you fit the pieces together dry and then use capillary action to pull glue into the joint you have no idea if you've actually coated the entire lenth of the joint with glue. Maybe you did and the gun'll last forever. The next time you use the same build technique it might not and you'll be looking for your fingers in the grass.
