They're large diameter fittings, 2 in+

This place has steam pipes and such so there's heaps of big iron pipes and the like.

Clean them up. Likely the corrosion looks much worse than it is.

Bead or sand blast preferably.

Sometimes a spot of corrosion DOES go quite deeply for whatever reason, so look closely.

If there is no major pitting, I would be fine with using them.

I'd be careful about the ones on the floor; sitting in pools of water will pit them a lot more than being damp on a shelf. The others should have only minor rust, but you may want to invest in a grinder with a wire wheel.

I can't make heads nor tails out of what the heck you're showing us there....sounds like lots of old rusty pipe from the other conversation. My opinion is that these fittings aren't really that expensive in the big scheme of things...the time and effort you put into cleaning them, especially if you have to blast them just doesn't make them worth it.

I vote for skipping them.

Never skip anything made with lot's-o'-metal. More likely than not, if the economy tanks, metals will be the only thing you can count on for currency.

That, and having tons of metal stuff around never hurt anyone. I'd kill for that kind of opportunity (both finding tons of metal pipe AND finding an abandoned asylum to explore).

The scrap value of steel really dropped when the economy got screwed up. I doubt it's going back up anytime soon.

Next time I head over there I'll take a few fittings home and see if they're in good condition.

All you young bucks who haven't seen the Mad Max series should take some time out and rent them some time....lots of home made weapons and vehicles....very Spudfiles!! These movies made quite the splash in the early 80s and put Mel Gibson on the map for good.
