Same here. Why is there a time limit at all? I can't see any advantage and is only an annoyance when trying to correct a post.

The limit is now 15 seconds overall, so once you hit "Post" you have 15 seconds to realize the mistake, hit edit, fix it, and hit "submit" to make it error. I think typically it would take a bit longer.

The limit is to control thread growth in the event of a SPAMBOT attack.

Yes. Usually either after a post, and spotting a spelling mistake, going back and fixing it, only to be told I have to wait - or when typing two posts in different tabs simultaneously, then trying to post both reasonably rapidly.

But a reduction should cut the number of times I see that, so that's a good thing.

The 30 second limitation was indeed VERY VERY annoying.
15 seconds is way better. I have benefited multiple times already when I expected the error but didnt get it.

Hmm... A spambot starts with a new account right?
So what if newer members have a limit, while the dedicated members do not?
Possible spambots will be controlled, and the dedicated members find themselves free of the limit, which would be comfortable.
This could be based on account age, post count or maybe sell it in the spudbux store, as bots wont buy stuff there.

It's not unknown for a member of no small number of posts to get angry with the site and use a spambot through their account. I've seen it up to posters of about 200-300 posts.

I think that 15 seconds is fine, no real burden, and indeed a boon in ways. It has the benefit of when if you've clicked the "Submit" button more than once in a shortish space of time that you don't get multiple posts.

I know that with as many legitimate posts as I have, I'm hardly a spam threat - but also, I don't want accidental double posts, and no time limit will increase the counts of that considerably.

Ahh haa, I believe that's probably the primary reason it's there. Sometimes after clicking the "Submit" button, there is a significant enough delay in processing the post that it makes me wonder if I actually clicked in the box.

If I remember correctly, Spudfile accounts are verified through the e-mail account provided during registration. So unless a "spambot" can go to a e-mail account and validate the account, it has to be a registered member launching the "spambot application".

You'd be surprised with what you can do with your own physical server. As long as a competent spammer spends no more than 15 minutes getting to know how the site functions with a dummy (human controlled) account, he can configure the spam scripts he is running to successfully register and use multiple accounts. All it takes is time and a little knowledge.

The reason we are relatively safe from spam is because:

1.) Almost all spam comes exclusively from corporate entities which run off-the-shelf (believe it) software which has the profiles of most forum/BB/comment/guestbook scripts pre-configured, so all they have to do is install and set free.

2.) The remainder is the stuff we are vulnerable to comes from disgruntled members or just pure trolls/raiders, and is configured to the target board before operation. Only flood control measures can control these spammers.

A Captcha (but NOT always, seeing as we now have screen-reading technology and the fact that spammers can simply use a human to register accounts) and some nifty things like PCGUY has set-up ("Are you human?") can cut back on almost all corporate spam. It would have to be a pretty desperate and pathetic company which would actually spend the time to modify their scripts to suit a specific forum's architecture.

But enough talking. You get the idea.
