bb hybrid maybe

okay i dont no if any1 here will no wat im talking about but ill put it up any way, i was thinking about making a bb hybrid, it would combine an air powered bb gun with a coil gun (check here if you dont no wat a coil gun is http://home.comcast.net/~irwinner/coil_gun.html) the bb would start off being pushed foward by the air pressure, once it got to a ceertain point down the barrel it would triggger the first coil would fire (i would use an ir led as a sensor) then it would trip another censor firing the next coil and so on, i dont no how well this would work thats y its only a THEORY, just thought i would post it.

I can't see the pictures and can't play the videos.In my opinion the rail gun totaly sucks.The coils you plan to use will be useless if they don't have precision computer control.A long barrel, high presure O2 hybrid will be much easyer to make an will be much more powerfull.

the coils will only slow down the projectile, unless you have super acurate sensors.

the sensors are ir leds and ir transistor, they are accurate but i will have to figure out the optimum location for them.

the reason it say that it accalerate bullet like projectiles at 35m/sec is because they have to start at 0m/sec, if it was already moving the coils would only accelerate it more (assuming i had the sensors placed right).

ps - i have persicion computer control, also i woyld like to not that bbs wieght less than 9mm sized bullets thus they would be accelerated faster

Indeed. Transisters and diodes have very nice responce times.
Dunno about vacume tubes though...

I don't think it'll make that much of a difference to the preformance of the device, but it'll be noticable...
However, (although such speeds don't really help much) you might be able to use it to boost your projectile to supersonic velocities, because magnetic feilds arn't bothered by gas laws.

Of course, your coils might have too much inductance and resistance to make that possible...

I made a huge Rail\coil gun and a metal slingshot shot almost when supersonic...

The timing with infared is hard to do, you have to set up the IR led and transistors up right to a Transistor that tiggers a super-senitive relay that dumps a lot of energy into the coils fast.... It's pretty easy if your good at electronics, but if your not you probably can't do it...

Some guy made a Railgun with a pneumatic injector, I beleive the same concept could apply.
