I don't know if these were ever suggested or how commonly used they are but here are some of my favorites:
-empty tennis ball tubes in 3 inch barrels, they litter the tennis courts and they work well with heavy/hard objects taped to the end
-liquid nails tubes in 2 in
-compressed snow any size
-ice or Pykrete any size and tipped with a sharpened stick or filled with rocks adds some serious punch

here is my snow compressor. The nails hold the stopper plate in the bottom and the piece of paper board on the end is to stop the wood from getting all mangled. the projectiles end up quite hard.
