typical soda bottles burst at 300psi, as far as the "works/drano" bombs, I think discussion of them is one of the forum no/nos....

I know that they're not exactly the safest thing, but they're quick easy and cheap...

I had the samething happen to me with a 2liter bottle it got like a tumor coming off of it the size of the bottle it was so weird. I don't know how they can streach so much?

I still don't see why anyone would even consider using a soda bottle as a chamber. You need a pipe for a barrel and a valve with pipe threads... you're already halfway there.

I suppose if you needed a low volume clear chamber for whatever reason, you could use a preform. It's a soda bottle before it's heated and inflated to its typical 2-liter shape. You can imagine how thick the walls are.

Those preforms are just unexpanded water bottle blanks, If you have ever watched how it's made, they heat those and then put them in a mold and blow them up to fit. Since they coast about 5 cents to produce, their profit margin is huge...

although truth be told, I have always wanted to know where to get those.

Molecular weight of CO2 is 44. One mole of gas occupies 22.4 liters at STP.
(1000g)/(44g/mol)*(22.4L/mol) = 509 Liters

STP = 20C (68F) and 1 ATM pressure.

now it seems that dry ice could be used as a cheap source of CO2 for high pressure portable guns.... the only problem is how to use it safely...

Yeah I have heard that before as well. Though I do recall a member taking their soda bottle past 125PSI, it'd be interesting to know how deformed it is at that pressure.

I agree with you. They're far too dangerous and you have to go out of your way to make the threads work anyway.
