My First Airsoft Design

Ok, the other day I was talking to my friend who is really into airsoft about my newest air rifle. He told me I should try to make an airsoft gun, so I gave it a shot. Here's the drawing I made on the computer. Sorry I'm not an artist.



The image should be pretty self explanatory, but i it is confusing just ask. One thing I need to make clear is that the piston woul probobly be ripped off an old foot pump I have that is starting to malfunction. Also, the magazine uses a spring to pop up the next piece of ammo. And also, I forgot to label this, but the tan areas are just pvc.
What I need to know from you is, would it theoretically work? And what do I need to change on it? Also, just so you know, Im not going to be using this with immense pressures, seeing as I will use this at my friend's airsoft parties.

I dont think you need a sprinkler valve for that, it seems over kill, You could just hook your piston straight to the blow gun, but you wont get very good pressure with just an old pump piston.

And i dont think your magazine design will work, unless its a really quick burst of air several bbs will leak out with everyshot

It seems overkill. Search for "cloud bbmg". Your magazine idea adds realism but what stops bb's from pouring out?

yes the sprinkler valve is defiantly overkill, I don't even think that such a piston could pressurize the sprinkler valve's own volume, in this case a blow gun could work fine, and you do need to work on a loading system for loading bbs

well really what I want is a gun that does not need to be hooked up to a compressor of pump ever time, It doesnt have to be automatic. I looked up clod bbmg, but are there any actual instructions on how to kae one? Also, I would rather it just shoot one bb or airsoft per shot, rather than being somewhat automatic.

a cloud is really really simple just looks at some of them in the showcase, air goes in bbs come out

Then your going to need a bolt action or a blow forward breech.

That's basically how a normal airsoft gun works.

Im still working on the design of this gun. I am planning to have a small air pump on the side of the gun, the air hose would be the air chamber, the sprinkler valve is the release valve, but instead of the spring-fed system, Im leaning toward a gravity fed system. Obviously, the only problem would be airsofts falling out, but I was thinking that the weight of the other bbs on top of the bb in the barrel would keep it in place? am I right in thisnking this? Also, If I'm using 6mm bbs (airsoft bbs) would I use 1/4" pipe? Thats just a tad bigger than 6mm, so would that work? Thanks in adavance!

Just buy a normal tight bore airsoft barrel and a hop-up chamber for it.

The bbs in either of your designs will just end up falling out of the barrel and your use a whole magazine in about a second which would be a real pain to reload.
Your better off with a cloud or vortex bbmg, there relatively easy to make and have decent performance.

You would still be dealing with having to make magazines and deal with all that,you'd be better off going the route I did. I took an old utg hop up shotgun and basically gutted everything except the barrel and hop up unit. There's a link to it in my sig.

yeah, but I dont have a compressor, so I cant make a cloud bbmg. all I want is a gun that I just pump it once, pull the trigger, pump once, pull the trigger, etc(kinda like the old bb guns from back in the day). About the magazine, would a spring loaded mag hold the bbs in place? I am good a building things, but Im not a machinist, and I dont have unlimited time and money to do this, just a few hours, (and a few dollars) a week. Im pretty sure my design would work, except the magazine problems, right? Im gonna have to think about the mag though. Thanks for your previous (and hopefully upcoming) help. By the way, The whole Idea of this gun is so I dont have to be constantly connected to a compressor of heavy hand pump (just a light one attached to the gun)

Today, I bought a small hand pump, it cost only 8 bucks and goes to 120 psi. I am planning to mount it on the bottom of the barrel, just to the side of the blowgun trigger, the handle of the pump facing away from me so I can pump the gun like a pump astion shotgun. The pump will then be connected to a male one end treaded pvc fitting with a cap with a short length of air hose, then the adaptor will screw into the modded sprinkler valve. The sprinkler valve will have a, again capped male screw-in fitting. A hole will be drilled in the cap, then the 1/4" barrel, Im still not sure as to what to do with a mag though, any help?
