Just an observation... But I see a lot of kicking and screaming about old topics that have been kicked up, and while I agree that kicking up old topics doesn't serve MUCH usefull purpose, you have to realize that a lot of the times it comes from newer members and even some not as new members, clicking on the random cannons that get cycled through and highlighted... It's easy to forget to look at the date posted whenyou click on a random cannon that catches your eye...

I guess I'm just saying that before you jump down some noobies throat for kicking an old topic, think about how he found the topic in the first place...

Yes kicking up old posts is like putting a music playlist on shuffle. Instead of listening to you want, you listen to anything and it brings up a nostalgia feel and perhaps opens you back up to tastes you once forgot. A long comparison but what I'm trying to say it's not bad to look at old cannons every now and then.

I agree, rcman,

But to kick it up is (in my not-so-humble opinion) rude, and unnecessary, I find that almost 90% of the kicks I have seen could have been done without, and that excludes the author adding new info to let people know of updates (COUGH) JSR (COUGH) which I think is a very decent reason to bring it back.

I know, everyone did it when they first got here, I was certainly no exception, but the ends (new members stop kicking) justify the means (harsh pm's)

Again, just my opinion

I used to be flamed alot when a few mentally challenged members frequented this forum a few years ago. Every single kick up, even if it was useful, was met with "dead topic dumbass", "read the dates retard", and it was rather annoying.

I have no problems with kicking up topics period, just as long as the person still participates in current discussions, and doesn't make it his job to kick the old ones up.

I do however have a considerable number of working cannons under my belt for only 4 months of fiddling....

1. golfball gun
2.modgun(toolie chambered) with 6 barrels
3.mini mod gun(qev valved) with 4 barrels
4. copper gun/walking cane gun (working but the aesthetics aren't finished)
5. 7-1" bore coaxiels
6. ball valved modgun with vacuum assist

@ jack,

Ironic, No? that at the same time people are in debate about how people should be dealt with, someone decides to kick up another topic :?

I say, that just to keep things simple, until we get it figured out, all kicks be dealt with by beheading :D

The thing is 90% of kick-ups are 'cool cannon what does it shoot' etc, if there is a decent kick-up with a valid discussion and the topic is only a few months old, or the cannon is worthy of a kick-up (i.e Larda's Hybrid) I will generally leave it but warn the member anyway.

No member on this forum should ever see a Moderator discipline a member for kicking up a dead topic, unless you are that member yourself. So when you talk about how rude members are being to members who kick-up topics, I hope you do understand that they are not acting on behalf of Spudfiles and they have been told not to discipline members themselves.

Countless times we Mods, have to tell other members to stay out of things and report it to a Moderator. No member, regardless of age, post count or frequency should ever tell another member off for kicking up a topic. If you are found by a Mod to have done so, we will PM you and tell you off ourselves.

Remember folks, report it a Moderator, do not deal with it yourself.

Well, I am definitely guilty of that, I have given a few members a heads up/ welcome to spudfiles,

Don't understand exactly why it is that that is not acceptable, but if you insist.

As an off topic question, Where have you been Crowley, this is the first post of yours I have seen in quite some time :)

Hence the reason I brought it up, too many non-mods trying to mod...

Mods are more lenient when old topics get kicked up with valid discussion, but too many nonmods jumping on the old topic beatdown regardless of valid discussion...

I want to see the sight grow(intelligently) and sometimes the more intelligent and insightful newbies are the ones that will potentially take offense to overbearing rudeness... the ones that deserve rudeness are normally the ones not fazed by it...
