Well that was purely an example (probably not the correct one to use)- though where would the line be for things such as forum bumping, spelling and grammar?
It's kind of irritating where the line between discipline and simply letting someone know what they did.
So basically (mainly asking a mod here) would the average member be allowed to say (politely of course):
*answer here*. Hey (welcome to spudfiles if they're new), it's generally not a good idea to post in old topics; you could try starting a new one or messaging the author.
If it's not offensive, not being rude and simply, politely requesting them not to perform that action again there's no problem with it surely. Just as long as you don't bite their head off?
And Rag is correct, the exception should be safety..Whether it's a general note for use of DWV in a combustion, a telling off for DWV in a pneumatic or a less insulting flame for something as stupid as black powder.
For the standard person, I believe that another member speaking to them firmly but politely would take some effect. I think more of a problem would come when the responder begins to get rude or insulting, which can invoke arguments and completely destroy anything constructive in the post(s).
Am I correct?
Okay, let me explain this in the most obvious form possible:
1: Regardless if they are going to use gunpowder or any other unsafe device/propellant/explosive. Do not reply to them.
PM a Mod.
If you feel like he is moments away from death, send him a polite PM.
Why do you need to post in the thread?
2: If there is no risk of him blowing up, do not reply or send him a PM. What's the point? You're not a Mod, all he will think is "why is this person disciplining me?".
Shoot a Mod a PM, as discussed before.
Those are the only two situations that should really apply to you guys.
Even if you want to tell him in a nice friendly way and answer his question...
Do not bother.
A mod, when PM'ing him, should also answer his question and/or send him in the right direction.
So there is no need for any of you to PM or reply to the member.
Unless the post deserves to keep it's place, by replying to the member you not only waste your time, but mine. Means I have another PM to send and another post to delete.
If you think the post is worthy of your reply and help, then feel free to answer his question(s) and send him in the right direction. But if it's a worthless post, don't bother replying at all. Also, be aware that if a Mod thinks that the kicked up post, does not deserve to stay, your reply will also be deleted.
Full stop. No ifs, no buts. Unless you're PM'ing him about #1 (safety issue) of course.
Understand?
