It may work if you can find the piece, but big pipe, smaller male adapter is highly likely to not exist.

Many adapters are designed to fit the socket of a T, elbow, coupling, etc and not slip directly onto pipe. As such you will most likely end up with a 2.5 inch coupler with pipe on one end and a 2.5 to 2 inch reducer on the other with a male 2 inch adapter inside. If you are creative, you may get away with rounding the outside of the male adapter (take the flats off) and get a tight fit into the inside of the 2.5 inch pipe. It's how I made the breech of the Mouse Musket by placing a 1.5 inch female adapter inside the 2 inch pipe. I had to heat the pipe and force it on to expand it slightly and then glue it.

Mouse Musket Breech. Reversed 1.5 inch female adapter is inside 2 inch pipe. Piston is inside 1.5 inch pipe sealing 1 inch barrel.

No, there is a difference of over 0.02 inches including the threads. If you can figure out a way to bake cookies inside PVC pipe then maybe you have something to go on for the project after this one, as long as you don't die.

But you can't always leave these things to chance, you might want to try this at Taco Bell first, they have large quantities of food for very low prices... Wait what?!

Just kidding, I don't know where I was going with that. Yes, it will work.

Tech, he posted the part he is buying. It is from the same supplier as the valve he is buying. The fitting does exist, and he is buying it.

2.5 to 2'' reducer and a threaded coupler and your set. it may not be as compact as you want, but it will work.

The link is selling that, hi was just suggesting an alternate route in case you didn't want to buy the part.

You could also use a 2-1/2" coupling, a 2-1/2"x2" bushing, and a short stub of a 2" SCH-80 threaded nipple. I used the same concept to shorten up the distance between the air chamber and barrel on another launcher I was making.

2" SCH-80 threaded nipple (8" length) cut down, with the pipe part solvent welded into a 2" tee.

That valve is the the wrong configuration. See some of the prebuilt launchers on the website to see the right configuration.

And, again, the part you linked to is fine.
