It's been a while since I had the opportunity to see the inner workings of one, but IIRC, the method used on the M-61 Vulcan is pins that ride in elliptical troughs.

I think you should probably figure out the firing mechinism before anything else... If you haven't already.

You could get an electric screw driver and attach a sprocket on to it, and attach another sprocket on whatever the barrels are attached to and have it chain driven.

I have figured it out, I'll tell you that it will be hand cranked, but I won't give you the details because of the contest.

If you don't want to that is fine, but most people are decent about stealing ideas... And since you would post it on a forum, you would have proof of your design...

I'm just currious!

I may just have to make custom gears for it, but I'd rather use something easier.

If you want the axis of the power source (crank, motor) to be perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the barrels, you will probably need gears. If you can have them parallel, you could try a belt drive or a chain and sprocket drive like on a bike.

So you are asking for others' help but you want to protect your ideas from others?

Ya, I'll get right on helping you out.

Oh well, here's a hint (if you have trouble reading the hint highlight it)

If I were you, I'd use peg wheels. Fairly simple to make, lots of Da'Vinci's stuff had them in it. Or was it Arcamedes.... Anyway, they're wheels and cylinders made of pegs and disks. But if you have any way of making gears at all, that would be a better alternative.
