hand pumps

ok so the search function on here sucks, so sorry if this has been covered. i am looking for a good hand pump that isn't to expensive and will last. i have been suggested Beto brand pumps before but i was just wondering what people thought of Schwinn, bell, top peak, ect... what are the good brands that will hold up. if i can find it in a store instead of online that would be even better. i ask this question because i bought a cheaper foot type pump and it has only lasted a week and now wont go over 40 psi.

I have a planet bike shock mate. 29.99 on amazon. com. I like it better than my beto seeing as i can use it for schraders and prestas. But hand pumps? You mean the ones that go up to about 120 psi? I dont know i never had one of those.

im not looking for a shock pump i guess the more proper term is a track pump. a shock pump would take forever ti fill my tank.

Did you try oiling the seal on your foot pump? Sometimes that brings them back to life.

yep i took it apart and gave it some silicon oil and its still dismal. i only bought it a week ago but i cant return it because i cut the schrader fill valve off for my quick disconnect and i lost the receipt. i guess it was only $9. i just want one that will last through spudding use. at the target by me they have Schwinn and bell and a no name brand. i also have a bike shop close to my house that i haven't checked yet.

uhh you know you can get beto's at walmart right?
they're about the best pump you will find locally i have had schwinns, top peak's, and bell's and none of them have lasted more than a month for me my beto is still running strong

Topeak make great pumps.. They make a dual cylinder track pump that goes to 260 psi, and several that go to 160. They of course can be overpumped a bit, I overpump my Topeak shocky by 100-150 psi regularly and have had no problems.

The component I would expect most likely to fail is the gauge, the one on my first shock hovers at 75 psi when at atmospheric pressure

The gauge hardly seems to mind, it's kept it's accuracy quite nicely and still returns to zero, unlike some of my other gauges.. (ever overpumped a precision 50 psi gauge to say..400 psi?)

I've run it several times to the zero pin.. Which is a LOT of pressure. I'm actually more concerned about the rubber hose, but it's held up.. (pumping to the zero pin also gives massive blisters)

You could also build your own pump if you're up to it

well i have only had the ones from dicks sporting goods(the crappy ones) so i can't speak for every pump out there

i have considered making one but i dont have alot of time to dedicate to things while going to college. i was just wondering i know iv seen some pretty slim cheap Schwinn pumps before, and i was thinking you could just get rid of the leather piston and replace it with something similar to the piston on gippetos homemade pump. because in my experience its the piston that craps out and if it was replaced with an oring type it would last alot longer. has anyone done this before i would think it would be pretty easy and improve upon it a ton.
