You have to use reverse psychology ;) It should look something like this:

That is the full launcher :)

But if you insist:

The pipe is 28mm copper with ~26mm ID x 600mm long
The pressure limit I'm setting is up to 300psi

And the projectile looks a little something like this:
Image

Projectile is 25mm 16 BAR PVC x 570mm long before the nose. Clocks in at ~150g.

More closely at the pointy end:

The moulded polymorph nose has replaceable tips. The polymorph was blended with wax to allow self-lubricating of the screw threads. Also a steel nut in there to assist.

I've forgotten how it works now... :crybaby:

Just as I figured :) so is there an O-ring at the "muzzle" end? How do you make sure the pressure finds its way to the base of the projectile instead of just bleeding out around it?

I'm wondering which way round you think the launcher fires... Came up on the preview...

I'll cut out any confusion on that and tell you that it doesn't have a rear facing trigger. Furthermore, the pipe has an endcap over the well, end.

I assume the trigger points to the front, on top of that the handle is under a slight angle: \.
As making the gun shoot to the right with a \ handle makes an awkward grip.

On top of that there seems to be a fitting (which looks like an end cap) at the what I assume to be rear.

One thing that confuses me is the QEV. If its barrel sealing, that means the pipe on top should be the chamber....
However, it could also be a valveless-ish launcher, with the barrel port of the QEV leading to the rear end of the projectile, giving the initial push for the projectile to come past the hole in the modded T.

We're getting there :D

But what you see is what is there, the barrel port is attached to nothing.

I got that, but am I right in assuming that the copper pipe I/D is the same as the projectile O/D?

From what I am gathering;
1)from the QEV, the chamber pressurizes and then dumped with the QEV, so the copper pipe is in part the chamber.
2) there is an inner barrel that the projectile resides inside and the valve is in the rear so the chamber can launch the projectile,
3) the valve "Piston" is in the area of the QEV and operates a valve at the far end, possibly by moving the barrel to unseat it from the cap.

@Jack: No, the projectile is about 1mm skinnier than the ID of the pipe. It's nowhere near airtight. I have to admit I am playing with tape to get a reasonably good fit, but again, it's not supposed to be airtight.

@Tech: It's much simpler. I also promise that there are no hidden pipes in there. The one you see is the entire piping of the cannon.

Inonickname mentioned it was QDV based, I think that was due to the discussions when I released the preview but honestly I'm not seeing the similarity.

I'll see if I can find a camera and some light...

Ohhh I got it! The reason you wanted the nut cut down is because it holds a burst disk! Then when you fire the pressure difference causes the bulllet to penetrate the burst disk. :) Clever

Let's just see the thing work!

To be honest, what with the subliminaly phallic projectile it looks like the sort of device that would be in the arsenal (seriously, no pun intended) of Orgazmo's sideckick Choda Boy :P :D

So, you load the projectile in the copper tube and a burstdisk goes over the T and seals it up. The chamber is then pressurised, with the gas able to slip around the projectile. On triggering the qev the pressure in front of the projectile drops and the projectile accelerates into the disk, bursting it. the pressure behind the projectile then fires it out? Anywhere close or the ranting of a madman?

Hmm seems very innovative. Cant wait for more pics. What pressure will you be using and what is the purpose of this launcher?
Yeah, it's that important.

And I was guessing the chamberport of the QEV held a piston, wich clamps down the projectile.
Fire the QEV, blockage is removed.

The projectile would hold a 12 gram wich is punctured by loading.
CO2 bulb is sealed against the back...

Having people guess as to its function certainly is innovative. Seems to be working too.

Everyone loves a good mystery.

Time to come clean...it's a pneumatic sewing machine isn't it??
