I'm looking for a 120V electric compressor with relatively high storage capacity in the price range of a couple hundred dollars. While a google search is the obvious technique, I thought the accumulated experience of spudfiles was also worth consulting. So any suggestions?

Well volume isn't a huge issue, buying air tanks will increase your volume with fair price. After that it is an issue of (S)CFM, (Square) Cubic Feet per Minute, for instance the rating is given as X CFM @ 90 PSI. From that you can decide which compressor will give you a reasonable CFM against price. I'll have to poke around for a bit, but I'd support an American product over a Chinese one (discount stores, Harbor Freight for example). Have this compressor, and haven't had anything but trouble with the pressure switch, reset switch. To the point of replacement.

If you have any decent HP motors lying around, typical for our breed, you may consider just buying the pump assembly itself, that will save you a lot of money and possibility to shoot for a higher CFM.

I assume that you want higher volume to be able to recharge the chamber more times before the compressor kicks on and/or you want to do tasks that require higher volumes of air, like painting, with it (or you have a really big gun :-)) If it is the first of the two I would save my money and buy this compressor. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/d ... mber=95386
I've been using it for about 4 years and haven't had a problem with it, and I can also charge my pneumatic gun with a 3"x36" chamber about 3 to 4 times before the compressor kicks back on. If it's the second of the two reasons, well then ignore all I just said and listen to pimpmann22.

I found that i liked having a really portable compressor with me because I am always shooting someplace where carrying all my gear was required. Compressors are heavy!!!! I have a one or two gallon porter cable compressor (sold at Lowes). Craftsman compressors are nice also, I have an 80 gallon one in the garage that goes to 130 psi.
