This is one of my favorites, just for the sheer joy of doing something different I came up with the KingPin.

It's built around a home made diaphragm and utilizes a normal sprinkler solenoid to actuate it. I went with a sprinkler solenoid because the KingPin was designed to be trip wire activated.

The vent tube was way too small, it fired with an insanely loud honk! We must have laughed about that for a good half hour.

KingPin was retired after the solenoid holder cracked under the pressure. Here's some previously unreleased photos of it's construction.

Side view of KingPin and all her accessories. From top to bottom you can see the pressure gauge, Schrader valve, battery, and contacts. I made the contacts myself, two pieces of metal that were normally closed until a thin piece of plastic was slid between them. The plastic was tied to the trip wire so when the wire was tripped the plastic would pull out and complete the circuit.

Picture of the back plate as seen from the inside. The washer glued in the middle is to hold the spring in place. That's the pink vent tube going into the solenoid housing with two hole (above and below the vent tube) to equalize the solenoid housing.

Here's the other side of the back plate. Kind of cheap construction now that I think about it, but the solenoid housing was a piece of 3/4&amp;quot; such 80 I think, it was held onto the back plate by 4 metal pins and some JB Weld. What was I thinking!

I wish I could give credit to the designer of the home made diaphragm but I can't remember his name or his web site. But here it is if you ever feel like making one. yea, I like the whole thing except for the solenoid actuation, I'm still confused by it, explain

Hmm nice implication of the solenoid, but a ball valve would out perform it
