Tutorial for push button valve?

I was wondering if there are any good tutorials on how to make a push button valve... I found a thread on here but it isn't that great. Thanks.

there are two slightly different things here that are refereed to as 'push button valves'. DO you want to:

1.buy a ready-made DCV valve (with a push button or lever for actuation) (you can get them from ebay for less than 15$)
2.build one yourself

note the two are not exactly the same thing.


well if you want to build your own you should first get familiar with search function here... lol don't worry, it takes time to get used to it

Yeah I had seen those links, except for the second one. I just wanted to know if there were any tuts. BTW I already searched Thanks for the links though. I really like the "Neat push button valve", but doesn't it work backwards?

I think you can work out on your own how to build one... though, in my opinion, you might find it cheaper to buy a ready made one from ebay (yeah, I do have a secret deal with ebay... I get 0.25$ each time I mention it)

don't forget that building one yourself costs money too (price of fittings)

sometimes you can get some really good valves for just a couple of $. Though you have to learn some stuff about DCVs first... it's good to know what to buy


it's just a matter of personal preference I guess... maybe I ma too lazy to build one myself

They're pretty simple, the hardest part is finding the right materials.

Like piston valves, there is no standard or stock parts used. You basically can make them from anything though I would say these are slightly harder to find materials for as you can't just cast an epoxy piston or hot glue piston etc.

Just go to the hardware store and look for parts. You need a shaft, like a bolt or something, which is the main body. You then need a something on the front of it that will seal against a seat. Then you just need a spring and you're done. With high pressure you want the face of the piston that seals against the seat to be as small as possible. You also need to have flow, you can't have the bolt ride in a fitting perfectly, then there is no way the air can escape unless the bolt is hollow and has a path for the air to escape.

I like how you used the quick connect for the push button housing... I might have to try that. I made a simple push button valve earlier, but then I realized that the seal is over an inch in diameter so it would be really hard to press. Where does the are escape around your push button? Around the bolt?

the largest one there is the most useful.. it's a direct acting 3 way valve with metal to metal seals... really really useful

that's why it's good to know a bit about these things... becasue you know what is worth buying and what is not

What do you think of this design for a push button valve-
Green is bolt
Red is 1/2" close nipple
Black is rubber washer
White are washers
Gray are nuts
Blue is a 1/2x 1/4" bell reducer
Squiggly line is spring.

You could probably make one like I did here except plug the top and drill a hole in the side

I don't understand that... It's too blury. Can I see a diagram of it?

And before I go any further, would these valves be a good pilot for a medium sized coax?

Ill try to make one, basically its a piece of pipe blocked off at one end with a hole right above it, when you push it down air goes through the hole and vents out the top of a hole drilled near the top

That design won't work because the brakeline isn't airtight with the pressurized part.

Thats why you put an oring on it, Ive tested it, it works,
