He adds the nail so that the button can be depressed further. Otherwise, the top o-ring wouldn't clear the orifice for the output.

yes the button isn't normally tall enough, you'll want to find a very thin yet sturdy and long nail, I find that the brass nails that come with picture frame hanging anchors work very well for this.

I should add a disclaimer that this modded valve is limited since it's just a blow gun so don't expect it to be better than a sleeve valve or a DCV.
The venting flow rate in general is a little less than the flow rate of a normal blowgun, and fill rates are the same as if you were using a blowgun as a fill valve.

That is true, but it is 1/3 the price of a cheap 3-way valve.

yes and know... I've never seen blowguns cheaper than 4$ but I've once bought 6 valves for ~4$ total

Yeah, well aren't you a lucky duck? I get blowguns for 7, 3-ways for 25.

thanks mate!! even though there is limited flow, i think this will work good in a 1/4'' or a 3/4'' piston valve

Or you could do what IKM3T did and use it for a sprinkler pilot, probably best results with this mod. The sprinkler could be used on a larger piston valve for a pilot, but they typically aren't semi-auto. The best way to employ this mod would be the sprinkler pilot.

EDIT: One question-
Remember that this is a unbalanced valve so after you do this mod you must have a way to retain the button restricting it to these two positions
Do you mean that you have to have a way to keep the lever from rising past the normal position because of the pressure acting on it?

But how can it be used for a safety?

Edit again: never mind, found it:
I did do some testing with a quick connect the only problem is that the piston wants to pop all the way up into a closed position when handle is released I can easily fix that with some kind of mechanical device that restricts the lever from raising too high, and on the bright side it has potential for a safety

i guess using such type of stuff is much better with less effort, what do you think?
