solvent welding a collar
i'm making a collar to go around a 4" male pipe thread out of pvc so that i can put an o ring seal between them and not have to worry about the tapered thread. what would the best way be to permanently join the collar to the base of the male threaded fitting? if i solvent weld and clamp it untill it dries would that be sufficient? or should i try a different means?

It should work, however I am having dificulty understanding what you want to do. Do you have a picture of the fitting you are making?
i want a collar with a seal around a threaded male adapter so the mating part isn't as hard to torque down... relying on the tapered thread for the seal isn't always best due to the inconsistencies in the tread and it would be far easier to screw and unscrew if there was a collar around the fitting so i am only using 60 or 70 percent of the threads before the female threaded cap runs into the o-ring seal on the collar. i just have to make sure the collar seals securely enough to the male fitting. unless my concept is totally wrong.
