Best pilot valve

Cannons powered by pneumatic pressure (compressed gas) using a valve or other release.

For my 1 inch, 1/2 porting PVC piston valve sniper I was wondering what the best pilot valve would be, I considered these valves.
1. Sprinkler valve-way over kill
2. Ball valve- messes with aiming and I don't like using metal ball valves because of the price they are 10 bucks for a 1/4 or 1/2 inch valve, for there performace on a low pressure gun, there not worth it
3.Blowgun- seems kinda small but could work with a good piston
4.Hose spray gun- could mess with aiming and would be awkward
thanks for any help and opinions

it all depends on the valve, is the piston o-ringed, how much pilot volume do you have, and how heavy is the piston? even with a precision made piston i would not use a blowgun alone, a 1/4" BV would be much better, and any metal BV below 3/4" will not throw off your aim if you have a proper grip or a stock. a 3/4" SV could be a viable option, but it is overkill. i would use a small QEV/ homemade piston valve piloted by a blowgun to pilot your valve.

Blowgun on small pistons work fine. A very short hiss followed by the boom.

Take a listen. My retired 1inch coaxial the Mouse Musket. You can download a zip of the MP3 from this page.

I would make a check valve piston, mod the crap out of a blowgun, modded blowguns can get better flow than a 1/4 ball valve (quoted from Hubb Library) and my 2" piston valve can pilot off the 1/4 BV that is used for filling. I say go with a blowgun. Is it a compact valve or not? I think you're sick of compacts, but the blowgun should be plenty for this valve.

The pison will not be oringed, i don't get abot the equilization hole, I know why it's there but would I cut a grove along the edge of the piston, the pistons a half inch end cap which will slide in thinwall 1 inch pipe
That is all.

Ok if it isn't o-ringed, the blowgun probably won't work, the chamber air will equilize the pilot air too fast and the valve won't open. Make a little piston valve pilot, or by a QEV, which I dont think you wanna do.

Ok I may have to oring it, I don't want a qev, I may put felt on the piston which actually works great
That is all.

Well the felt is useless if you have o-rings, it will just make friction and the valve will open slower.

Incorrect, it compresses and slows down the air equilizatin like fabric medical tape
That is all.

If you have o-rings and a check valve, there is no equilization.

I was talking about a non oringed piston, I'm not sure if I will be able to make that small of check valve
That is all.

I know that. You probably can't pilot a piston with felt instead of o-rings with a blowgun.

EDIT Replace Hubb's 1.25" fittings in his design with half inch, and your done.

Yeah, but I'd have to find small rubber washers or cut my own but I'll probably do that

The check valve eliminates the need for an equilization hole. The filling air can pass it, but not get back, That's the point.

But if i dont build a check valve
That is all.
