Just a good target I had laying around.
Shoot some empty cans into something and post your photos.
Any combustion guys want to join the party? I would like to see what a combustion does with a lightweight projectile. Is the flame front too slow to do this? Anyone with a pop can barrel combustion?

A heavy duty shop paper towel works fine. Trust me.
It works for launching stuff with a hole all the way through it, like a short piece of conduit.
It is how I launched stuff through the washing machine with the ABS apple cannon and a D cell battery with the marshmallow cannon.

Photo of the piece of conduit after I took the machine apart to retrieve it. Tried again with the Marshmallow cannon and got a cleaner hole.
It obviously came out tilted from the 2 inch barrel on the ABS cannon.

The heavy blue shop paper towels were the only sabot used to launch the conduit.

For those with smaller valves, you can play too. Here is a can launched from my Marshmallow cannon with a 3 foot barrel.
The launcher is 54 cubic inches
Valve is 1 inch.
Can was launched empty at the edge in an attempt to split the can in half.
Photo below.

Not bad for the small valve, if I can get my hands on a soda can barrel I will definitely try this.

The QDV has a better flow path than a sprinkler valve.
A 1 inch sprinkler valve does not have this flow rate. It has too many twists, bends, and edges inside for great high speed flow. The QDV may open faster than some piston valves due to the very low pilot pressure when it pops open. Some piston valves with light shell pistons may open faster.

The one inch was for comparison for anyone with small stuff that wants to play too. I've looking to see the vast variety of launched cans and what launched them.
The 1.5 inch port on the 2 inch piston should flow somewhere between the 1 inch and 2 inch valves. You should get a reasonable pancaked can. Due to the size of the port, try to use a 2.5 inch barrel instead of a 3 inch. The lower volume will make better velocity with the air that can flow through the 1.5 inch port. Model it in GGDT to find the best length to launch an empty can. It should be fairly short.
Anyone have a tennis ball barrel on a combustion that can launch a can for me? I want to see how these compare to a combustion.

tech, those damage pics are both extremly impressive and odd, with all the empy cans i have shot i never had a side blow out. they usualy just smush and endup in 2 peices. was that shot at extremly close range? because at close range the internal pressure of the can would still be high and possible cause a blow out upon impact
and tomaroow Plague is being taken to my uncles farm were i will have a full day to shoot my spuds all i want and i can be as loud as i want. i have a stockpile of both full and empty cans that will be launched and the damage photographed. video is a maybe but if i do it will be filmed in 1080i for the veiwing pleasure of spudders everywere!

The distance is shown in the photo on the second page. Muzzle to target is about 6 feet to reduce can rotation.was that shot at extremly close range?

Here is what I got sofar, the tests were done at 20, 40 and 60 psi since it was done in my "indoor firing range" aka my basement.
I also attempted the "can cut in half" with a garden hoe... I couldnt find my Machete
If i find it and remember to do this... I think the "halving" will be cleaner.
Tests were done against a concrete wall. It didn't move...
