in between ball and piston valves, but the main limiting factor as i see it is pressure rating. they both very powerful but you can take a piston valve to 500psi where most sprinkler valves are rated at 120 and brake at 150ish.

In speed it is faster than a ball valve and many pistons.

In flow it is much worse than a ball valve and most pistons.

Power is related to flow when open and how quickly it opens.

Short barrels and lightweight projectiles need high speed to get the power.

Long barrels and large chambers with heavy projectiles don't need as much speed, but really need the flow.

Small launchers do fine with a sprinkler valve. Large launchers do well with a ball valve.

Fast piston valves rock the air cannon world with fast and high flow.

A 1.5 inch sprinkler valve compared next to a 2 inch QDV both with a 3 inch barrel was not really a contest. It was a demonstration.

QDV and sprinkler valve cannons tested side by side. Both are using 3 inch barrels. Rolled t shirts..

hrmm in relation to flow , many people use a blow gun to actuate a sprinkler valve and a 1/2 inch piston valve but can it actuate a 3/4 piston valve
