Damn MrC, looks serious!

On a slightly wind related note - PVC pipe, not just for making chambers and barrels:

Something POLAND_SPUD mentioned recently... could be a good way to make reciprocating feed/valve mechanisms for those without the benefit of metalwork facilities.

Intel made a big announcement this morning. While Vera went big, Intel went small. I love my work.

It is true that no optical microscope can see these. The device is smaller than a visible optical wavelength of light. The spacing is 22 nm.

The light spectrum of visible light has a wavelength in a range from about 380 or 400 nanometres to about 760 or 780 nm. No amount of microscope power can magnify it large enough to see it.

This is huge. They have been working on this for a long time. Just like an air cannon, the efficiency through the valve affects the speed and performance. These are fast and tiny.

More video and info here including Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) pictures. Electrons are small enough to see them.

Torrent users beware. 23,000+ file sharers to be sued. If you have seen The Expendibles online, check this list to see if they will be trying to get your info from your ISP. If you use a router, you can log into the router to see what the IP address is you have from your ISP, then search the list.

Ouch. Glad I wasn't inspired to watch it. Not that it seems to affect users outside the US anyway.

If a decent number of those targeted refused to pay the out-of-court settlement, most of them wouldn't see the inside of a court room.

Unless they can actually find the time and money to sue all 23,000 people in court?

I don't know how it would work... and what would they sue them for, lost earnings? How much profit do they make off 23,000 sales?

Good thing I never torrent, "walks away whistling"

Nah, if you want to see something, dvd rentals exist for a reason, I've only torrented stuff I can't find in a video store.

Edit, something disappeared

Just a niggle:

If you're stealing movies, what are the odds you're stealing internet also?

Just another reason to protect any wireless network router you set up, or else problems like these (or worse!) might work their way to your doorstep because of a scumbag neighbor.

In the US they do very well. They threaten you with a lawsuit. It boils down to we can make it go away for between $2500 and $5000. If you don't make it go away, we sue. They get lots of people who know a good lawyer is $250/hour and a couple months of work even if you win is a loss.

For those who do go to court they sue for $150,000 per infringement. Care to take your chances. Your best bet is to be "Judgment Proof" They sue, they win, you have no money. They can't collect. They brag they won as a publicity stunt.

Here is an example.

It is cheaper to burn down the local city hall. The damage is less.

With the RIAA, the negative publicity has severely hurt CD sales. It has been good for non RIAA labels.

To help music lovers avoid feeding the RIAA litigators, there is a handy website that is popular to see if a recording your considering is promoted by the enemy.

A couple of the off brand movie studios are going to find themselves in the same boat. So far this has not been driven publicly by the MPAA. If it was, the MPAA would find the same thing happen to their sales.
