Getting a bbq igniter to spark

Hi, new to the forums, and searched around, but didnt find something specific on this

I recently built a spud gun, 4' (feet) barrel, and a 2 foot chamber... i bought a bbq lighter, but idk how to get it to spark inside the chamber, it will spark on metal, but only if its touching...

im not very good at electronics... only building

Simples way to do it is two screws in the chamber, the gap betwee nthe points should be about 1/4" - and hook up the ignitor cables one to each screw.

a bbq lighter or sparker?? if its a lighter you gotta take it all apart and do as mentioned above. if its a sparker you hook up a wire to the metal thingy on the side, another wire to the round metal thingy on the bottom, and then do as listed above to the 2 screws. any problems, pm me!!

ok like "jackssmirkingrevenge" said put two screws connect the red wire to one and the black wire to the outher and set gap 1/4 to 3/8

I hate them things, too dam annoying, i like the latern twist igniters, The latern igniters are more dependent in my eyes

yep i agree i use these http://www.google.com/imgres?q=electric ... 23&bih=755 mine looks a little different coulnd find a pic of it but it does the same thing got it off a grill in the trash makes a good 1/2 - 3/4 inch spark

i tryed those, and still stuck with my latern sparker

I advise against that. It's only using one AAA battery because that was the voltage it was designed for. You MIGHT get away with two or three AAA's. It'll wear down quicker though. You could try this. It's my own custom rig and it's easy to build. You would need an adjustable spark gap from hot to the coil in order to get reliable sparking on a push button.

I'd advise against two or three AAA batteries in series. In parallel though, certainly. The only issue is that you may fry a diode or capacitor by doubling the voltage in the circuit, but if you connect the cells in parallel, the voltage doesn't change, but the current does.

If you follow the picture on the bottom there is no reason that it shouldnt work. maybe the ignitor is defective
