It's coming along well, taking it back to shop tomorrow to get welded. Put piston and bumper together this weekend. Will post pics sometime this week hopefully.

So in getting back to this orginal point of this post. I have found this valve that is an in-line 1.5" solenoid. Would really like to use the solenoid on this gun but am wondering if anyone has any experience with valves of this size if the solenoid would be as fast as modding this with a blow gun.

I will be using 10 AA batteries to fire the 12VDC valve if I do go with the solenoid rather than blowgun.

I am guessing with this gun you could just unscrew the solenoid as JSR has suggested and place a blow gun.

Keep it electric, unlike a sprinkler valve this sort has a high flow pilot, I predict a blowgun will give you worse performance.

I would try a single 9V battery first ;)

A single 9V besides being 25% low on voltage, it may be hard pressed to provide the current over an amp the valve needs. If you use a 9 volt battery I would put an electrolytic cap in parallel with the battery to provide the impulse of current needed. Use a 25 volt cap of at least 4700 MFD.

That valve draws 17 Watts at 12 volts DC.
110v AC: 22 Watts, 12v DC: 17 watts

I actually just got this bad boy, the guy I got it from was using a 1/4 ball valve to actuate it. I would think a blowgun would work just as good. Note it was used to pilot a 3 inch barrel sealer with 2 1/2 inch porting!

I am debating between either using the solenoid valve in the original post as is or using this valve

http://www.sprinklerwarehouse.com/Rain- ... 150-gb.htm

and doing a basic modification. I am assuming all of the modifications are the same on this valve as on a plastic valve.

I am trying to find out the response time of the stainless solenoid but it is a non porting valve so I can't decide which would be faster.

There was a guy on here selling a 1 1/2 inch hunter sprinkler valve already modded for 40 bucks, but I lost his info when I deleted all my messages the other day. Maybe he will see this and reply??

You are right. It worked. JSR, feel free to try a 9V battery first. I won't stop you. :D
