Threaded adapters and excess thread for Sprinklers

I'm doing a test fit on the male-to-female adapters for my watermaster. By hand I can get it in less than half way. I don't want to use a wrench yet, but if I leave exposed thread on the final product, is that a bad thing?

I followed the instructions from the website above to smooth out the seams (except the part about cutting out the thread) but halfway is the best I can do without teflon. If I follow the max 2 rotations recommendation I may not be able to get it all the way in even with a wrench. Having it tight means I'm getting a good airseal but does the exposed thread mean the chamber won't be as strong?

No as long as you use teflon tape and tighten them.

That's normal behavior from threaded fittings.
Now, some brands will fit closer (different thread dimensions), but I can't provide data on that.

When i had exposed threads, they snapped on me.
This is not kicking up a dead topic because...I have an intelligent answer to his question.
