Help me Build my piston
I need help making my piston. I'm wondering What to use for everything. My shop class has a lathe so i'm thinking I can make the piston out of aluminum? I tried using foam balls for a bumper but it didn't work out well. And for a seal should i use a piece of bicycle tube or rubber sheets? I'll probably go to the hardware store this weekend so any suggestions for materials to use would be great. Also if you have picture of your piston and you posted that would be great. I really need some ideas...

are you using this for a small QEV, or a large barrel sealer?

I would go for delrin/acetal or uhmwpe, even nylon if it's available. synthetics are easier to machine and lighter, giving you better performance for less effort.

Member since July 2009 and such newbish questions?
Someone has not payed attention. I haven't had to say this in a long time but it's a 'fitting' time. UTFS!
There's a play on words in there to help you out if you can 'find' it.

Half the time at least a piston material can be found that's already a slide fit inside the pipe of choice so having a lathe etc. is irrelevant.
That means the average piston assembly requires cutting off a section of Delrin etc and screwing a pice of neoprene from roofing supplies onto the face.
A daunting task.

There are a million how tos here and on youtube! Do some research dude!!! Also I use a rubber sanding drum as a piston in one of my cannons and in my opinion its better than a bolt/washer piston. You can get them at harbor freight for like 8 bucks!! Good luck!!!

Maybe it's something you shouldn't attempt.
