@Evilvet, Let me see what I can scratch up. I should have a lot of material and an open machine.

Gents, if the goal is 12 weapons per person in the world, we got a long ways to go. :)

@USGF
Let me see what I can scratch up
Thank you kind sir.

If it helps the link to the motor specification page for a schematic of what I am intending for the mount is:

http://www.oceancontrols.com.au/datashe ... MOT128.pdf

The idea is rather than have the motor in line with the ball screw as I have done in the past, it will lie parallel to the screw and drive via a timing belt. The mount plate is drilled to suit the 80x40 section and the face of the stepper motor.

Thanks again for looking, PM for a working email address if you prefer to take this off line.

Edit: Hated that image

More weapons = less people so it should get exponentially easier to achieve our goal :D

Sometimes when I read of your genocidal plans I think maybe it's a good thing you don't have a working hybrid :D

Gents,

Making some progress here. Mike and I have purchased a 20 ton Morgan Vertical plastic injection machine. This is the unit.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Plastic-Injecti ... 500wt_1202

Commercial guys would call it a toy but we gotta get our feet wet. We have 5 CNC mills so we should be able to cut molds. Whether we are clever or smart enough is another issue. More learning curves.....

@Evilvet, It was a zoo at the shop today. I will contact you via PM tomorrow.

Evening all,

The sparkie dropped by this morning and hooked up the spindle motor.

Interesting time working our way through the Chinglish manual but some Google and crossed fingers got us through.

Had a minor hitch with the water pump; memo to self, check hoses are tight before starting pump. Nothing like a fountain in the middle of the workshop with 3 phase wiring exposed everywhere :oops:

Anyway, all good in the end. The little spindle runs up to 24000 RPM in about 10 seconds and is pretty quiet too. I had it running for 30 minutes with the water cooler and the case temp stayed about 5 degrees above ambient so I am happy with that. Speed control is via a 10k pot that works as a voltage divider on the analogue control port. When I go live I will probably swap that for digital control via RS-485.

USGF is helping me out with the axis motor mount plates so that is progressing too, next step will be to finalize the Z carriage and get that fabricated.

I will have a video up later tonight for those who are interested.

Cheers

Nice!

I think I have one of the same toggles, but it's a momentary switch...

@Evilvet, somehow I missed your video. You should be able to change the carrier frequency in the VFD. This can change the back ground ringing noise to a frequency that is less irritating. Also, the accel deccel time can be shortened quite a bit. Very cool. You should get your package in the next few days.

@USGF
The package is here.

All, USGF was good enough to make up the plates I needed to get this project moving again, see below. Brilliant job turning my crude CAD into just what was needed.
