How do you talk your parents into letting you build one?

I have wanted to make one of these for some time but my parents are very over protective of me, and they made me destroy my mini medicine bottle one i make yesterday. It sucked to have to do that. I live in the most PERFECT place for these and most of my friends have them.
I hate over protective parents

Here are there reasons:
Dad:
(most important to convince)
He hates the whole idea and wants me to have nothing to do with this

Mom:
Does't like the idea of it "exploding" hairspray as propellent. Although she was impressed by my mini.

This sucks because i always get totaly screwed like this.
4 weeks to convince them to let me have a blowgun, only to find out that they are illegal in CA. (but mom we live in the #&%* mountians. No one will know, lots of people have 'em)

I finaly get a slingshot and the band breaks on like to 3rd shot and mom throws it away

So if any of you can tell me how you won your parents over that would be awsome! I really want to join in the fun.

well theres 2 aproaches to this problem, gain there trust or find something they hate evan more. i use the second one more often, my parents know i would be making like c4 or flash powder if i wasn't making guns, and explosives scare my parents more than guns. besides remember that making tater cannons is a "learning experience" (my dad told me that once). the other methood the getting them to trust you is more time consuming and works less often, start off by building like a pnuematic nerf gun, prove to them that you wont shoot people and cars then in a month make a pnuematic paintball gun dont shoot people with it just trees plywood, then next month build something with a bit more power and so on....

well the is a thrid approuch, dont let them know... i have 11lbs of kno3 at my friends house that nobody know about (i got it off ebay 8) )

Well, what I would do in your situation is tell your dad that it gives you a chance to put you imaginative and engineering skills to a challenge.

tell them that it's better than doing drugs and it keeps you away from that kind of stuff.

tell them you can make an air powered one and that you can control the pressure inside of it.

go to some bodies ose that has one. bring your parents and let them see how it is. Also stress safety till your head wants to explode. tell them you will wrap it in tape and all that stuff. finally start small 2" chamber 1" barrel.

my parents didnt want me to build a basic combustion,so when they went of to aussie i built it,they got pissed but i still shot it at a field(remote location) and they slowly gained my trust after i become obsessed with spudguns now my dad drives me to the store to get parts for them

my parents have a natural trust in me, but only if friends are not involved, i think this is because of the first half of my life playing with firecrackers the size of a shoe., damn those were fun, two stage of normal firecracker explosives, each stage is about 1 pound and it would shoot itself into the air and then explode again, possibly taking out some windows

Well i made a small pneumatic with a coke bottle chamber and a small ball valve and dad said well its better doing this then playing playstation all day and he doesnt really care but he did grow up with explosives and guns he has a demolitons and agricultural explosive lisence which is kinda cool but since the terror attacks/threats it alot harder to get chemicals.

Jut dont let them no or one day get blind drunk n see if they want u drunk or playing with potato guns..Give them a choice..potato guns or drunken fool..

Its was my dad that suggested making one.

A pneumatic sounds alot safer from a parents point of veiw.

You could even use metal so they dont get worried.
