I had another Idea as well, a 2 part projectile that would "split" in half upon impact with the water. but here's what i meant earlier. You need a place to attach the line to the projectile and that place has to be at the back (for stability's sake.

- my second idea, the 2 part "missile". the two halves should separate upon impact with the water due to the increased drag (only if it smoothly enters the water in such a way that the force exerted upon the tip of the projectile is minimal with no super cavitation)

My concern would be that it would split up in flight. Also, do you actually want to use this for fishing? My original suggestion was to provide a more reliable and "permanent" marker for range as opposed to looking for a spash

If built properly it should stay in tact until it hits the water. Our local lake has a very shallow gradient so it is very difficult to fish from shore so "casting" 100-150m would save me the couple hundred bucks I would have to spend to get a canoe.

I would say the drag from the main line would pull it apart in flight.kydavies wrote:If built properly it should stay intact until it hits the water.
Since you need it to be low velocity in order not to tear the line but still reach far, it might be worth the time and effort to make an aerodynamic and high density finned saboted body.

I plan to put a 40lbs test leader to absorb the "snapping" of the line as it pulls taught so I should be able to fire it at a decent velocity (for my launcher). Also I want to to fit inside of 1/2" sdr 21 because I like the challenge. I'm thinking if I'm careful and go with the 2nd design I Can connect the main line to the front half of the body and run it through a guide on the tail
