hehe!
I think longer tungsten(not tungsten carbide) rods could possibly work quite well here, seeing how the nail performed.
If they have to go through spaced layers though, we woulld need much stronger fins... or a drag stabilised shotgun slug type projectile with a hollow tail.

I'm thinking something more like 80-150mm depending on the thickness and susceptibility to buckling.
There are no constraints for trying to use cartridges here, so I'd say the longer you can get away with the better.
They should also stay a lot straighter when going through spacing like that.

True - it would obviously fly slower but the extreme sectional density should more than make up for it.
Tungsten III
Fantastic!

Shame you didn't have enough backing behind the plate in order to retrieve the tungsten, should have rested it on the beam ;)

I'm fascinated by the marks around the entry hole. It can't be fin fragments, delrin wouldn't make that sort of impression on steel. My theory is that fragments from the back of the rod break off on impact and are thrown by their forward momentum into the front face of the plate. If you could find one after firing, we can confirm it ;)
given the mark of the second layer profile, she looks intact thy rod.

How far away was the shot on that last video ?

There is a flash of something in that slowed down bit at the end, maybe just the rust but it looks like it's actually emitting light.

Wow, that is comprehensively shattered!

steel on steel makes sparks, even at low velocities:

I saw, I saw :)

That certainly explains the pitting around the entry hole!

It's almost like you have accidental FAP!
