1/4" gas thread taps?

Does anybody know if you can get thread tap and die set's for gas threads. its the 1/4" tap that i'm after specifically. the same thread that standard compressor parts come in.
I have asked around at my local hardware stores and nobody seems to know. then i remembered you guys know everything

1/4 inch pipe thread. It is a standard pipe thread. I've only used standard pipe thread parts with my compressor for replacement gauges, etc.

Yep 1/4" NPT is what your looking for. I got a tap at ACE, but it was like $8
Please dont get a tap and die set at harbor freight, its cheap, but it cuts crappy threads. Craftsman has sets, but they are pricy. I would try a place like ACE or a quality one online (read $5+ dollars) :wav:

There are taps for NPT and NPTF. The F is used for fuel applications.

Personal opinion, but if you're not going to buy a set - if you're just going to buy ONE tap - get NPTF.

NPTF is just NPT built to tighter tolerances. That means two things...

1) It'll be much easier to achieve a good seal.

2) The tap itself will be of a high quality. Nobody makes crap quality NPTF taps.
