Sorry if this is a repost... saw it today in a facebook ad.

I think it's absolutely hilarious and I'm going to try making my own. It's a gun that shoots a pinch of salt at flies.

Well here it is:

It's essentially your usual spring-piston mechanism with a twist: There is a break in the barrel for a system that delivers a pre-measured amount of salt into the path of airflow simultaneous with firing.

This should explain it all:

It packs a surprising punch. It stings skin and dents aluminum foil from 3-4 feet away and easily punches through foil at point blank. It has no trouble putting down flies.

The cocking mechanism uses a rack-and-pinion system. It's quite difficult to pull back compared to, say, a nerf gun. There is a respectable spring buried in there but I didn't care enough to do a complete disassembly.

There's a silly automatic safety switch that I promptly removed. (I don't believe in safety switches on my guns... and especially not my toy guns.)

Overall a very clever, fun toy. I'm thoroughly amused.

Fascinating!

Have you tried it with some wadding? I'm sure it loses a lot of energy through blowby.
