A new sentry gun project

I got a bunch of step motors, drivers, arduino and I can probably code it once I find a formula and understand how to implement it
so yeah I might experiment with it

can we expect a Polish bodged together version of this anytime soon

yeah that's pretty much what I want - just choose azimut and elevation and then fire the gun

since the projectiles are just rolling down the barrel, should be a doddle to have a feed mechanism controlled by a single servo.

place a loading mechanism next to the gun and tell the barrel to move to a specific position where it can be loaded

I've just read tons of stuff on trigonometry, inverse & forward kinematics and sh## and I still don't know what formula I need.... but I feel like my mind is about to explode

Apparently you "tag" a target in the electronic scope, check that you're happy with it, then the next time you put the crosshairs on target the rifle fires automatically.

yup electronics is sure awesome - some sensors and coding and you've got a machine that does wonders...

ohh and I wish I had paid more attention during my maths lessons - coding DOES rely heavily on maths

just had an idea how to solve this mortar issue without knowing the exact formula (sorry I just can't wrap my mind around it - sure hope that's the right expression)

so the idea is as follows - model the entire setup in processing in 3d using real dimensions then use dist function to get distance between both step motors and the barrel bracket... lol this does seem like a retarded solution but at least my feeble mind can, more or less, comprehend this
