How interested would people be if got a design that I created for a bluetooth remote control device that could switch up to 24v? If enough people are interested I could get PCBs printed and put them in nice cases. (at this point its only a concept)

I guess you didn't see Poland Spud's thread. PM him about it.

I am getting a bluetooth module soon :)

Theoretically one could get around 100 meters - if both of the devices are class 1...
Normally the range is close to 10 meters if both of them are class 2 (and most are) but supposedly one could extend that slightly if one of them is class 1

The receiver could be made fairly compact - all is needed is attiny chip, darlington transistor, relay and probably an oscilator.... though I don't think there will be enough ppl interested in this project to make this worth your time

The attiney85 has an internal occilator and it would just have to be connected to a MOSFET to switch the power. the minium order for PCBs is around 3 so we could work together if you would like

I'll probably use a perfboard not a custom PCB - I don't think you really need a custom PCB for something that small

I might as well use the arduino board itself as it will let me add more features in the future

and I don't say it just because I live in Poland and shipping would cost more than the entire order :wink: I can fabricate them locally but for a circuit that is THAT simple perfboard will be perfectly ok

I have had great success with the Arduino Mini, however I have a bag of attinys on the way to play with. The only reason I was going with PCBs was i wanted to use all surface mount componets

The problem with SMD is user repair, I can solder most SMD parts, even 200 pin micros, but a lot of people can't.

This is true however it would not really be intended for people to repair simply for people to buy and have work out of the box. however if they wanted to they could easily look up the schematics and do whatever they pleased. I had intended to include a ICP header so people could easily reprogram it themselves.

the idea isn't bad at all - but for it to be make sense you'd have to design one and prototype it - make it open source and hope that the chinease copy it ;-)

all I could find was this -> http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-Channel-USB-W ... 337c266220

I know they can do better/cheaper than that

hmm let's see
BT module >> 4$
Attiny -> ~4$
Relay -> 2$ (or hey let's face it who needs a regular relay & driver when you can hazz SSR relay for 7$ ? sounds too good to be true)

All in all they could probably make a board that costs as little as 12$ or so

FYI that Bluetooth board you linked to is simply a footprint for a module, this module is the cheapest i've seen.

ohh yeah sorry but that was at 3 AM and I had seen like a couple of dozens of them so somehow I missed that

sparkfun has the cheapest modules ?? no way - I can get them for like 10$ here in poland (both the module & the adapter board or whatever you want to call it)

so the real cost of them is probably close to 4-5$ if you order a large quantity of them

you're actually asking me to spend my time to find stuff that can be bought in the USA because you don't know how to find it yourself...?
it has zero interest for me - I am not going to order stuff from the USA because shipping will probably cost more than the part - spend some time looking for stuff & learn how to use google

but hey here you are
http://www.mdfly.com/index.php?main_pag ... ucts_id=63

and here is one on ebay -> http://www.ebay.com/itm/30ft-3-3V-DC-Wi ... 3f1fe117f5
