Just an update on how Im going: the barrel has arrived as well as the flanges. Ill be sorting out the gas input and ignition ports this weekend and hopefully organise with my mate to weld it up for me before Xmas.

If any one has a prior build with a heavy barrel and chamber or an idea supporting a heavy barrel and chamber but relatively collapsible Id certainly be interested to hear.

It is going to be trailer mountable( and fireable- going to use it for elevation and traverse) but hopefully Ill beable to find a breakdown solution so it .
I took design inspiration from mobile chernobyl"s 10XGB frame but with 5 to 6m of shd40 80mm and another 25kg of chamber, I think the frame style should be over built.
Ill see if i can get a pic or two up, ( Im not a CAD or computer design type

Not collapsible, but that was the point of making VERA the odd shape that she is.... So that the gun itself is barely longer than the barrel. Thus, no need to break it down.

If you're firing at high angles, they this would be the most elementary solution:



At lower angles, you definitely want some sort of recoil absorbing mechanism. The simplest way to do this is how artillery started off, mount the thing on wheels and let it run free - a simple welded frame and a pair of bicycle wheels should do the trick

I knew there had to be other Kiwi's out there making hybrids. Where do you plan on firing this thing? I'm up in Auckland and have enough troubles finding places to shoot a ~2L hybrid. Even if I drive an hour up north, houses can still be within a few hundred metres of each other and I've seen "neighbours" come out on their decks to see what the noise is.

I guess if you have a farm and know your neighbours it's not that big of a deal but the AOS seem to get called out to rural properties fairly often for gun shots.

P.S. if you know of any good shooting areas around Auckland, let me know

I think you should be looking into fitting a suppressor of some sort.

This one was not particularly sophisticated, just big on volume, and worked a treat.



You're unlikely to make it mouse-fart quiet, especially shooting beyond mach 1, but definitely can make it quiet enough for the "neighbours" to think it's something far away enough not to worry about.

Ok ive just got back from getting the chamber and flanges welded up( pics to follow), looking in to the carriage system this afternoon but at this stage ill have to wait untill after xmas to sort the rest of the gas system etc, due to work ramping up to cover the xmas break

Ok, had half a day free, spark plug is in, gasport is in with tap and bayonet fitting, got the adjustable gas regulator and gauge, just need to sort the coil, portable compressor and the frame
