I ordered one of those cheap 12v remote circuits off of amazon a while ago (~12$ shipped IIRC) and just got around to trying it out.

These things are extremely simple to setup, and I will definitely buy another one for another more serious project in the near future

The cannon itself is pretty simple:
1-1/2" by about 8" chamber
1-1/2" by about 14" barrel
3/4" sprinkler valve
160 psi operating pressure

Right now I've got my valve running at 12v because that's what the RC unit is rated to, is this hurting performance much?
I love lamp

Is it a 18 or 24 volt sprinkler valve? I can see it being a bit weak if it's a 18V, but at 24V I think it is deffenetly going to suffer preformance. As far as physical damage it's a electro magnet, I don't think they over heat from low voltage like motors do.

Very nice!

Given the size of the sprinkler valve's pilot opening, I don't think voltage has a significant impact on performance when you're operating it as a solenoid valve.

i think that you should take a 3 intersection pipe and add a feeder tube and have it shoot multiple shots :)

I used the same type of remote for my hybrid ignition, however my command looks cooler than yours

The magnetic field in the coil is directly related to current. Since current on 12V DC is higher than on 24VAC, it is not slower.

I found an old thread on the AC vs DC on sprinkler valves somewhere where the current was measured.
