It's been quite a while since our last contest. Given that I can't really participate in the hobby as far as building goes, I thought I would try to breathe a little new life here in another way.
So, this will be a traditional "Spudfiles Contest", as evidenced by the "Non-Ghetto" part of this title. That doesn't mean you can't enter launchers which would have won the last contest, it's simply saying there are no restrictions on build materials or budget this time.
Rules
- Don't enter launchers you've already built.
- Judging will be done according to the score-card below, and done by the judges in the launcher's thread the day after the deadline. This will allow the judges to compare all of the eligible launchers before making a decision on each one.
- To enter a launcher into the contest, merely tack on "2018 Contest Entry" to your post in the title. It should stay there for the duration of the contest in order for the judges to find your entry. I'll be keeping tabs and PM'ing judges new entries as well in order to keep them on top of it.
- Deadline for submissions is April 1st.
- The only prizes guaranteed are the ones I'm offering up. People are free to add to the "pool" here, but I'm not capable of forcing people to pay up when it's all said and done.
The score card markup is shown below. Judges should merely copy it into their judging posts and edit the scores. It should be pretty simple: each score (out of 5) is divided by 5 and then multiplied by the weight percentage to give a percentage subscore. The score is then calculated by adding all of the subscores up. I'll perform all of the legwork in averaging each submissions scores and creating the final tally post. If there are any questions, of course, let me know.

Closing remarks go here.
Lastly, a little twist on the typical contest:
While it's nice having the same older members (whether you're looking at post count, time spent here, etc.) sit on a panel and judge submissions, it doesn't really allow for a good competition: everybody has biases, whether they'll admit them or not, and part of this contest is getting some of the older members to participate and test their skills as well.
Therefore, the judges on this panel are listed below:
farcticox1
kevin-db
notarobot
No @ mentions on spudfiles yet, so I already shot these members a PM to ask if they're willing to join. So far, only farcticox1 agreed to do it, so if I don't get responses from the others in the next couple of days, we'll look for some new people in this thread. That being said, obviously, we can't have judges judging their own cannons, so if anybody wants to build instead of judge, let me know and I'll find somebody else.
I went for newer members who are still active on the forums and have at least one build under their belt.
With that said, prizes are as follows, and people can feel free to add others:
Official Prizes
- 1st place: $100 USD
- 2nd place: $50 USD
As always, when money is involved, no squabbling after judging is completed. The judging process is fairly open and set in concrete. Anybody can double check the math I do in the final tally post to see if it's correct. If you want to have, in the back of your mind, the notion of re-couping build costs with prize money, keep in mind that this is a volunteer event, and only one grand prize can be given out. I (and doubtless others) appreciate the effort anybody puts into this contest.
I look forward to your submissions. Feel free to criticize if you have ideas on how to make this contest better.
Also, this is a privately run competition, not put on by Spudfiles itself.
