QDV Piston leak question

Regarding the famous QDV valve as outlined in this video:

There is one thing I am not understanding.
Once the rod is retracted and the piston valve activation begins, what prevents air from flowing through the shaft hole in the center of the piston and out of the end cap assembly?

I have seen pilot leaks when experimenting with my cannon with no piston movement.

Many folks warn of the danger of pilot leaks.

I have seen 300...

There is no such thing as a safe cannon.... Follow firearm rules... ie, it's always loaded, don't point it anything you don't want destroyed, and...

My gun was leaking.

I pressurized it to 100 psi and dipped the muzzle into a bucket or water.

Nice bubbles.

I surmised that the leak was through...

Seems good im suprised it worked on wood might have to get me some of that stuff :) as it seems that teflon tape can be a bit hard to get to seal....

i just test fired my barrel-sealing piston cannon, and i could here a leak coming out of the front of the 2 Tee. the leak is coming from my 2 X1.5...

use epoxy and go all they way around the bushing.

i have had my 5lb co2 setup for about a year now and have used it quite a bit. i have taken off the reg, changed out tanks, ect without incident...

never had a spacer before with my tank, and the o-ring seems to be almost impossible to remove, where could a buy a spacer/washer? do paintball...

so i got my gun all built, barrel seals very nicely, and i got everything glued up. so i went to pressurize it, and it sprung a leak on the joint...
