Hey all, I got two questions: one, is it safe to file off the ridges on a threaded male and female adaptors? And two, how do you get a modded sprinkler valve to stop honking (yes I have looked.)
Yeah I know… I ask too many questions.
Thanks

I’m trying to make a 3” coaxial cannon and sleeve it in 4” and I’d like to be able to access the piston.

The honking also happens when it is opened to slow, or at a lower pressure.

Ok thanks, but about my first question is it safe? By the way I’m not talking abort the threading but the ridges around the out side.

The hex so that is all round? Then yes, Gort does this to make stuff fit flush.

No my adaptor has little ridges that run parallel to the pipe.

Hm, I think those are only on DWV and other non-pressure safe pipe, might want to look into that because I have no pressure fittings with ridges like that.

Yes well it’s “for pressure”, and it’s only 1.5” so…
Hey instead of starting a new topic all just ask it here, what can you use instead of Teflon tape to seal threads?

They all have thoes ridges, thay are so you can grop the pipe with a wrench. Thoes ridges don't effect the strength of the fitting. You can difinitvly file them off.

That's what I said spudstuff, the hex ridges but he said no. Eh well, look by the pvc glue and shit and they will have this stuff in tubes that looks like tooth-paste, its teflon goo, it never dries. It works in applications with pressure and temperature, pretty good all around stuff to have in the box.

I've had some on a modded sprinkler valve for a few weeks now and its still wet, I'm not sure why the pressure doesn't blow it off but its there and it seals perfectly.
