Energy Cannon?
im been thinking about particle beams, energy beams etc. and i think i found a way you could do it. if you took a large pneumatic cannon of a sort and had a very thin tube as the barrel, but then you use hydrogen particles as the ammunition, or another one that can tag electricity onto it. then what you would have to do is generate millions of volts and tag it onto the hydrogen particles, and then shoot them out of the large air cannon, im sort of giving a reference to Nikola Tesla's idea he made out of it, but his was quite a bit different, what do you think would be possible? basically, how do you think an energy weapon would work?
The hydrogen would'nt hold the charge, it would either change to Helium or shed the charge to the air, plus the fact that when you charge atoms they get excited and would fly out of the barrel right away. Even if it did hold a charge when it hits anything it probably would'nt let go of that charge. Maybe H-Bomb technology would be good reading for you, that "miht" elp you out.

Plasma cutters and ion engines have been around since the 60s. To give you an idea about the power and range of your cannon: it takes about 2 KW to create a plasma stream a couple of inches long.
Obtaining plasma is the least bit of our problems. It's how you contain it and project it that makes the difference between a torch and a cannon.
@Atlantis: Do you know what we call it when hydrogen "changes" to helium? Nuclear fusion. Be sure to let us know when you invent cold fusion.
Atoms don't get excited. Their particles do, and indeed some electrons will fly out of orbit, which is the whole point.
You can't charge atoms. You can turn them into ions. Ions bare a charge. Atoms are neutral.

An electrically generated plasma projection weapon ain't gonna happen any time soon.
However no harm in thinking out loud about energy transfer weapons
Fire two darts at a conductive target each pulling out a very fine wire, on contact you shove a massive electrical charge through them, the wires vapourise into conductive plasma, target gets fried.
Sounds like an uber taser now I think about it.

You could use a single wire, the voltage difference being to ground. Plus, it's been done before. I believe Survival Research Labs had one of these things, using capacitor discharge and a thin copper wire. It had a range of a couple of feet.
I think I've heard the UV laser idea before. If you combine the power the laser needs with the power the HV generator needs, it doesn't add up to a very efficient weapon. A rail gun, for example, with the same power, would definitely outperform it.

Railguns are what, 30% efficient? And that's at a few thousand volts.
While it's true that high collominity UV lasers are much worse, they arn't the priciable means of damage - so I don't know how much that matters.

The whole problem doesn't reside in the fact of turing gaz into plasma, it is in the fact of containing this gaz in a pocket while maintaining the plasma state. you would need a hyper conductive material, hollow shell, with high concentration of the gaz in it, and then turn the gaz into plasma. thr shell would be brittle though, the fracture on impact and release the plamsified gaz.

after that, my physics ain't rich enough to permit to continue the searching.

And besides, everybody knows to get cold fusion you have to get the hydrogen drunk and then put under high pressure in an atmosphere of vaporized KY jelly.
