Do I need to tap my pipe?

Cannons powered by pneumatic pressure (compressed gas) using a valve or other release.

Well I am planning on making a new cannon and I was wondering if I need to use a pipe tap to attach things? Like the schrader valve or the pressure gauge? Would it really be bad to just manually screw it in?

I Extremly sugeusst you use the tap. Especially if the fittings are 1/8". There is no perfect size for it.
