substitute glue?

When glueing pvc parts together is there an other glue I can use besides pvc weld glue? for e.g no more nails ,super glue? I've a limited budget and I'm only using whats in the garage.

You might be able to get away with some of the stronger glues... but bad things happen if the joint fails... so spend 6$ or so and get yourself a primer-glue multipack.

my experience with super glue is that it makes the pvc become brittle in a short amount of time. you could use caulk to seal the pvc connection and secure it with screws, or bolts (ive used this method before to much success). But im with boilinglead, pay six bucks and get the multipack, then you won't have to worry about the connections.

If there was any epoxy/glue I would subsitute(which I wouldnt) PVC glue for it would be JB Weld. But I was exactly like you when starting out. Didn't want to pay the extra cost,drive out to a plumbing merchant and what not but these buggers convienced me to ....Now i've changed and realised there is no subsitute.

Solvent weld it. I guess if it was a combustion, then you could get away with screwing it together and sealing with caulk. But, then you should still be careful.
Just pay the freaking $6 and don't risk it. Solvent welding is done for a reason. It's strong, quick, and very easy. Some of us may spend $6 on a single fitting, so quit cheaping out when you are buying something you can use for several guns.

On my hybrid my fittings cost me $20 each so just go and get the solvent kit.
