Brushless motor?

I just bought a mini camping fan for my newest cannon (a combustion). I took it apart so all that I had was the motor, and a positive and negative wire which I soldered to it.

I sent an email to the manufacturer, asking whether it was a brushless motor or not. I assumed it was, simply because so many people had used these fans before without any problem.

I received an email today, telling me that this fan did NOT use a brushless motor, and should not be used around flammable liquids.

My question is, should I get a new/different type of fan, or will this one still work OK? I'm only asking because so many members have used this type of fan, and I doubt (could be wrong) that different companies would spend the extra time to install a different brushless motor.

There is really no need for a brushless motor for that application.

You'd be surprised about how many people have said this to me

But yeah, I'm going for a combustion. Clear chamber, chamber fan, offboard propane injection, BBQ sparker (unless I try to upgrade to camera flash), and a bunch of cool things which I think a combustion should have.

I really do not want this fan to accidentially ignite the fuel mixture (Which non brushless motors can do, for they have mechanical contact points to start the electric circuit (or something like that; don't know a lot about electricity and such...). I'm going to wrap in in electrical tape to prevent the gas from entering or exiting.

Go to recycle center, I got 5 fans in hr. plus fly back circuit wire from tv

Computer fans have no air moving capabilities really... these camping fans own them 8) .

SpudBlaster15: Thanks for the information! Exactly what I was looking for. To be safe, I sealed it all inside of electrical tape and glue, inside of a 3/4" coupling. It worked out well, because I was going to use the 3/4" coupling to mount it anyways

Computer fan with the proper sized batt. works great.
12v fan w/12v batt.

I am sure it does. Still, it is not as powerful as a mini-fan. The mini fan uses less electricity, and causes much more turbulence in the chamber, causing the fuel to mix more evenly in less time. Computer fans take longer, and also might not mix it entirely evenly. Also, the mini-fans vent much faster too.

I hav'nt seen the camping fans around here. I live on an island!
I make do with what I can get.
I can see how they would work well.

Computer fans come in about 4 different sizes.
Each size category is available in at least 2 different amperages.
There is also a choice of having a ball bearing or a bushing.
If you want you can also reshape the blades (easy) to make them spin faster. My point is that they are cheaply available, easy to modify and definatly brushless (brushless motors are called induction motors).
