It's a barrel sealing valve in a tee.
Nothing overly "special", not that being old/boring technology means it's lousy.

Not to be pissy, but don't you ever figure anything out by yourself?

The mauler is a barrel sealing piston valve with some special features - but noone's allowed to tell you what those features are...
Novacastrian: How about use whatever the heck you can get your hands on?
frankrede: Well then I guess it won't matter when you decide to drink bleach because your out of kool-aid.
...I'm sorry, but that made my year.

one of the special features is...it has...a...smilie face engraved on the piston, which adds to the opening time by brightening up the cannon's day!

actually, its just a very well made piston, using a bored out T and lathed piston with o-rings. it probably also had a built in check valve. the check valve part is just speculation from the preformance...and it makes sense.
There are rules, and then there are hundred dollar bills.

How did such a simple question require 7 responses? No reason to illiterate a proper response. Worse yet, do not be a dumbass about it, A-98.
