Loudest bang

Hey, I was just wondering what set up would give me the loudest results in a combustion? I was thinking a burst disk would be the loudest but I am not really sure. I am working on a field cannon type project, trying to make it look authentic and stuff. Here is a preview of what I have planned

good luck building that. a very short barrel and a burst disk in a union is the loudest you will get out of it.

no it would just not break...or maybe it would...i dont really know ask a pro at combustions....although most of us prefer pneumatics...im done now...

i eould go with a pneumatic, have a regged co2 setup and have a piston valve. also, depending on what your using it for, more people will accept it because there is no fire hazard.

My cousin built a replica of the German cannon Big Bertha out of 4" steel pipe and calcium carbide. We had to stop using it when people a quarter mile away reported windows and plates rattling . But yeah that was bad idea theatre....I like the idea of using pneumatics because a piston valve makes quite the bang.

Since the original question was regarding combustion launchers, the loudest setup would be a burst disc in a union. Multiple burst discs would not make the cannon louder, the bang is caused by the release of pressure from the chamber to the atmosphere. Since this cannon seems to be based more on looks (are you using a projectile?), I would recommend no barrel at all, to maximize the bang. The difference in sound volume between pneumatics and combustions is arguable, but combustions have a more authentic "artillery" sound than pneumatics, IMHO.

Where is the actual combustion chamber on this. I assume it is gonna be the inline part on top or is it over-under with the chamber that small pipe on bottom. (i'm guessing that may be there just to make it look more realistic) Would love to see pics when u finish it.

The calcium carbide makes acetylene and from a friend's experience with balloon in the desert; people up to a 1/2 mile can hear it go off.

build the cannon out of cellular core and whatch it blow up. that will probably give you a bang close to the soung of an M-80 bottle rocket. and that is extremely loud.

Yeah and the only problem with that is he could risk harm if it dose explode!

I beg to differ.
When I used to have a union setup on my standard combustion, the thicker the burst disk, the louder.
As, the pressure is being released at a higher pressure when using stonger disks.
I once did 5 layers of aluminum foil in the gun and just with right guard and a 1:1 ratio, I temporarily lost my hearing for 10 seconds and recover from my confusion.

with 1 layer of tin foil, it gave a more pleasant bang.
