I should make a fun plinker like this one out of some 8." If someone can get me 2 8" end caps for under $20 each, I would be much obliged.

Could get a couple of these of McMaster, but they're $30 each.

8'' PVC is also VERY EXPESIVE pressure rated..........
my local lowes sells it but in big red letters on the side it says NOT FOR PRESSURE...... that was a sad sight.........

(if anyone knows if this kind of pipe is ACTUALLY OK to use with pressure tell me. if so, i actually do have a contest submission................)

That's sweet. You should load it up with lead sinkers and wad them. Try for spreadshot.

Is the end of the water tank dished inward or are both ends domed outward?

a piece of pipe I shot at a tree
:D
The gun is a really kick ass gun.

But the tube is to short. You waste the pressure.
If you dont make a bigger calibre please make a longer tube.
Please something like 32 feet i will progonsis you will shoot through a house !!! The potential energie in the chamber must be awesome !

@paaiyan: I made some cannonballs for 1" pipe. Ill shoot a bunch of them at something eventualy. right now Im trying to get my contest gun finished in time :)
@ kansasfarmer: one end goes in and the other is a dome.
@billy bob: I could make the barrel longer, but it is annoying already because I have to remove the barrel to reload. Edit: billy the barrel is 40 FEET long not 40 inches.

The end that goes in is dangerous. I would suggest that you keep the pressure below 60 psi. Even if you test a tank like that at high pressure and it holds it is no guarantee. Every time you fill it the dished end presses outward on the tank and stresses the welds. The dished ends of old water tanks blow out when people use them as air tanks, treat the dished end as if it is the end of the barrel, or find an old tank off of an air compressor.

The only time Im anywhere near the tank is during firing, and the compressor is shut off. If it explodes Im not going to be exposed to shrapnel either, so Im not too worried.
Cant say the same for the car its sitting beside though :)

The dished in end will blow out the end if it fails should not be too much shrapnel.

Those old water tanks have a glass lining, I believe. But no, there wont be any metal shrapnel other than the cap.
