stuck nipple

I have just successfully screwed a nipple onto a QVE and cant get it off. i have tried putting it in a vice, i have heated it up, and i have used a pipe wrench and the damn thing wont come off, any suggestions? its really important i get it off because it doesnt belong where it is and isnt welcome on my gun.

I really dont care about the nipple, could i cut it off somehow and save the threads on the QEV?

edit- the nipple isnt accually a nipple, its two copper male adaptors put together, but acts like a nipple.

Desolder the other half of the "nipple" and solder on an elbow right to the stuck male adaptor, then solder on a long length of pipe. Place the QEV securely in a vice and push on the end of the long length of pipe to loosen it. I'm assuming you screwed the adapter in there and that's it, so you should just be able to unscrew it, the long length of pipe should give you plenty of leverage to get it off.

Try using a product called fluid film, or liquid wrench, or maybe WD-40. Squirt it on the threads, let it sit there for about 20 min, then try with the pipe wrench.

userjjb- i like the way you think. can a QVE take that kind of pressure from a vise? when i put it in the vise i put the nipple in and attemped to turned the QEV.

i think you would be pretty safe putting it in the vise ( valve ) and getting as big of a lever as you can ( as suggested ) and doing that. if you put the nipple in and try to turn the valve you will have almost no leverage at all. as long as you don't overtighten the vise. all it has to do is stop the valve from turning not make it into a pancake valve lol.

sorry i have no experience at all with QEV's so im not sure what the parts are called. try putting the hex shaped side on the right of the pic into the vise as you would a nut and then turning the lever that is attached to the nipple. instead of putting the edges of the valve in.

You can click the thing that says "how do I get it", then enter in stuff, tada! It is really useful stuff, they don't say it on there, but it eats through rust, just bubbles it off! And, its great for loosening things up.

thanks, but i got it off. i used a vice and a 4 foot lever and let some oil work it's magic over night. it took about 2 or 3 minutes of turning as hard as i could, but i got it off. it was on rediculously tight.

i had the same problem when i put a 3/4 inch pipe nipple in my qev with hydraulic thread sealent....i used a vice and a 3foot long liece of scaffold on a huge pair of stilsons it crushed the nipple but it got it off!

lol, that kind what happened with me. when i took it out it was oval shaped and really deformed.

well a new nipple is nowhere near the price of a QEV so its all good!

Yeah liquid wrench or something might work. Plus, simple science lesson, most things (metals included) get smaller (i.e. easier to remove) when COLD. And the title to your post, (do not call me immature) is just classic. You gave me a good laugh, thanks. Spud
