Air is supplied in the lower area. when the firing sequence is enitiated. a valve opens allowing air to push the piston forward. This allows the rest of the air to be released.
The protype will be a one shot deal. it will have to be manualy recocked.

On the real deal the bolt its self will be part of a pneumatic ram asembly. This will allow the bolt to cycle back and forth with a 4 way valve.
When the ram is activated to push forward it will load and fire a ball and open the valve. When it is actived back (as soon as the firing seqeunce has ended) it will seal off the valve. Nolonger suppling air to the barrel and will allow the air resevoir to recharge.

So its going to be O-Ringed and all?
How much pressure do you think you will need to come in the back to push it foward? Wont it waste alot of air after firing?
I can see it working with some tweaking and stuff, goodluck if you do build it.

Yes its gunna be oringed. The final run will be delrin.
The protype will be really ineffecient. Prob take alot of pressure

but the real one will be using a nice ram, and those run pretty efficiantly.

if you like electronics then you might want to consider powering the bolt electronically, and I haven't seen a 4way electric control valve that will suit this, I hope the o rings wont get worn out

I wont oppose your idea on electronics, but remember pneumatic can be wired up too and systems of relief valves, regulators, needle valves can do a lot

Yea its just the fact that its a tournilevel gun, in theory.

This is most likely close to what i will use for a valve and ram.

The ram its self is going to have to be build into the body of the gun,
like so.

thats much like the design, except that uses a poppet valve.

Orings getting worn out is just a normal part of paintball... i have a little box with like 30 orings in it :-)

your Idea on a bolt valve has started to eat at me, now I'm staring to like this concept, the electric part still bugs me
that blowgun style poppet valve doesn't look very strong,
but your valve requires the bolt to move faster for fast opening, a very fast moving bolt doesn't sound paint ball friendly

With a forcefeed hopper i wouldnt worry about it... you would be supprised how quickly some paintball guns bolts will cycle.
upwards of 30 times a second.

thats means if the bolt cycles forward and back at the same rate this means that a forward cycle would take .0167 secs aprox.

rate of fire is is limited by the amount of time the gun waits before it reinitiates the cycle again.
A gun cycling 25 bps should take the exact same amount of time to cycle as a gun shooting 1 bps

What do you mean by the blowgun poppet?
the one in the animation??
there used in a CRUDload of paintball guns
from 50$ semi autos all the way up to the ego i put the animation up of which is in the 1000+ range.
