Why do people use quick disconnect valves instead of schrader valves? whats better about it?
If i use one, can i still use my footpump to pump air into it or do i need to buy an adapter?

those are not simple questions and many will debate them as they always do. I think quick disconnects are first of all "quicker" meaning more flow and quick to connect and disconnect. shraders restrict flow considerably

quick connects fill about twice as fast as a schrader valve. if you only have a foot pump then it is not worth it, but if you have a compressor it is.

for short barrels i hear that diaphragms are better but for long barrels pistons are better.

Quick connects hook up to air compressors, and schrader valves hook up to most pumps.
Diaphragm valves and piston valves are about equal. Diaphragm valves are easier to make, use less pilot volume, and open faster. PIston valves usually have a little more flow (not much), open slower, and require a larger pilot valve.

I do not agree, my piston valve was extremly easy and has much more flow that my diphram.

Oh, quick connects fill much faster, as long as all of them are the same. My shop has some "t" style md some "m" style fittings, so im constently changing fittings. The only advatage to a shrader is that it is universal and can be filled with any common pump.
